Today was the day. I did buy two ducks this year too, but this morning I really didn't feel like going there. However, I do have a friend with a dog, and he's used to being out in every sort of weather, so off we went.
It was dripping a bit at first, but then the cats and dogs arrived. It was pouring. Nevertheless, we made it to the finish mark and was laughing at the poor preparations they made in order to pick up all the ducks that crossed the finish line.
First of all, the net that was supposedly there to catch them all, was too small and most ducks just went passed it. Then with the four boats, and only one with an engine, had a hard time getting the ducks out of the water, using only a small sorta paper basket made out of plastic.
The water was streamy and it was raining and many a duck just disappeared, going straight into the ewz (company which produces electricity) cleaning thingie net.
Still, the site promises to have a pick-up day when you can retrieve your ducks. I'm tempted to go there just to see if my ducks made it.
But all the money goes to charity, to help cancer sick kids, so I'm proud to have taken part.
